Apparently KJ's old management may well have been behind this, and was available from the likes of HMV. This fantastic performance, and recording, makes the band's official, 1982, live mini LP "Ha" look fairly pedestrian in comparision.
Have to agree with John_101- the release off this was odd,I too purchased it in a 'legitimate store' HMV or Andys - I think the actual release was lateish '82- the title 'the ORIGINAL KJ' would seem to imply it was released after Raven replaced Youth as bassist...some time after the release of 'Revelations'LP (March '82?) & after Jaz had gone to Iceland(not the frozen food shop) meaning KJ appeared on bbc2s 'riverside' & 'performed' Empire Song on TOTPs with a dummy wearing a helmet in place of their missing vocalist..the mini live lp 'HA' I think was poorly received by just about everybody .i would give it a listen to confirm this but like many didn't keep the 10" 6 track release for very long ..This gig as with the previous years appearance with Joy Division at the Lyceum was regarded as a success & covered in most uk music mags of the time...Only looking at this today has 'confirmed' it was a bootleg ( I was never really sure..despite being sold 'legally' it seemed to go 'out of site' quite soon after)...
The best vinyl bootleg of their early days. Great performance, great track list. Maybe the vocals are too upfront in the mix, but at least it's from a decent mixing desk recording. Get this and the Philadelphia '81 DVD and you'll have what prime KJ was all about. I'm not joking.
