Unlike most soundtrack tie-ins, the album featured continuing comedy sketches by the title duo, Bob and Doug McKenzie

The success of the McKenzies' first album put the pressure on for a follow-up, but Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas focused their energy on a Bob & Doug MacKenzie movie instead. This, then, is the "soundtrack" of the resulting movie, Strange Brew. It is noted for the song "Take Off" which featured fellow Canadian Geddy Lee of the rock group Rush chorusing between the McKenzies' banter. On this album, they also sing their own improvised version of "The Twelve Days of Christmas", which is frequently played on the radio around the holidays in both Canada and the United States Appearances on SCTV.
