EMF were an indie/alternative dance band that formed in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England in 1989. Best known for their 1990 hit "Unbelievable", the band consisted of James Atkin (vocals, guitar), Ian Dench (guitar, keyboards), Derry Brownson (keyboard, samples), Zach Foley (bass) and Mark Decloedt (drums). The band originally disbanded in 1997 and reformed in 2001. Foley died of a drug overdose in January 2002 and the band only played four more shows that year before disbanding once more.

In 1991, EMF released their debut album Schubert Dip which went to in the UK. The name was explained by songwriter Ian Dench, as "If ever I'm short of a chord sequence, I nick one from Schubert. Successful singles from the album included "I Believe", "Children", and "Lies". The latter was controversial as it included a voice sample of Mark Chapman, John Lennon's murderer  . The band headlined at The Westbury Festival on Saturday, 25 August 2012. On 21 September 2018 the band played at Arrecife en Vivo Music Festival in Lanzarote.

They're here, they're here, around me He stands, he stands, beside me Could it be could it only be. Competing with the loud demands See the sights and hear the sounds Of desperation of war and creation The earth must cost and now we're faking Could it be, could it only be Chances slip through our fingertips Tell me the earth turns for the worse I'll tell your words are not the first.
