Anneke Grönloh passed away at the age of 76 this week. Yet very young, she started as a professional singer, after a won talent show in '59, my year of birth. Coincidentally she's my mum's namesake. She had a short interruption when becoming a mum herself. The record 'Anneke Now!' has been put out by Philips in that period; An American Songbook selection translated into Dutch. Leaving The Beatles behind, who temporarily kicked her off the hit parade, she headed for Asia. Having already successful tours earlier she continued her stardom. Probably her Asian origin had something to do with it. As a result of her fame, she met Ramses Shaffy, Rob de Nijs, Paul de Leeuw, Jan Rot and even Cliff Richard she had her own show with Marianne Faithful and The Seekers among international others. She had a great voice and received dozens of golden records and therefore one of the best selling Dutch artists ever, until now. Anneke nu! Anneke now!
