The last time Bruce Springsteen played at this venue he was accompanied by a ramshackle outfit and embarking on a new and uncertain career path. In the decade since then, he has found his way back to what many will always consider his true spiritual home, the E Street Band. The Rising, his first new album with the band since 1984's Born In The USA, has also recaptured the commercial clout that has eluded him in the past 10 years. There is a palpable air of anticipation as the band come on two by two, the biblical reference being quite intentional. The Rising may have found fame as an album inspired by the events of 11 September but more fundamentally it is an assertion of Springsteen's belief in rock'n'roll as a forum for secular salvation.
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band: Live In New York City is the name of a concert film done by HBO, featuring the first ever major televised Bruce Springsteen concert. It was later released on DVD with eleven extra songs not televised, and as a CD of the same name. All of these forms document Springsteen and the E Street Band's highly successful 1999-2000 Reunion Tour, their first concert tour together in eleven years.
The album gave Springsteen his first No 1 while the original 1980/1981 River tour represented Springsteen’s first major foray into Europe – including a six-night stand next door, at Wembley Arena. The tour also took place in the shadow of Reagan’s election of John Lennon’s assassination: it’s hard not to find strange, historical resonances today, as America similarly readies itself for an election and Springsteen and the E Street Band also pay homage to other, departed icons

The second section begins with his first Top Ten hit, "Hungry Heart" - this is the Springsteen of the late '70s and early '80s, an arena rock star with working-class concerns. After an acoustic mini-set given largely to material from Nebraska - songs of economic desperation and crime - comes a reshuffling of Born in the . songs in which Springsteen and his characters start to fight back and rock out.
